She chased after the guardsman and begged her to teach her how to fight so she would never be that vulnerable again. Seen as hopelessly unmarriageable due to her rebellious nature she is sent to the court of Phillipe le Bon, Duc de Bourgogne to be a lady-in-waiting to his wife. There she learns of the benefits of a having a husband. In scheme of revenge and search for independence, Mariel relents and weds the much older compte who tried to rape her. Martin now lives on his estate as a huntsman and forester. The name Waterspear is an Anglicized version of his childhood nickname wasserspier, meaning gargoyle, since he was often found perched in a corner somewhere simply watching his father work.

    Lady Moira of Kildare

(Righteous Sister of the Priory of St Colin)
    Award of Arms
  • MKA: Caryn Costello
  • Region: Stonemarche, Rochester
  • Era: 11th Cent Irish
  • Persona: Born the daughter of an Irish thrall and her Viking master in Dublin, Moira grew up a thrall in her fathers household. While thralldom was not the harshest of lives for her, being free seemed better. Luckily, she always was a daddy's girl so this goal was achieved. Even freedom wasn't free however, and the strain of living between classes became too much for her...delicate sensibilities. Deciding to start a new life elsewhere she caught the next ship leaving from Dublin - a trader headed to York. She appears to have found her niche -- dividing her time between sewing, cooking, fighting, and trying to keep a rather motley collection of others fed and organized.
  • Activities: Heavy List, Cookery, Garb Making

  • Morgann Blackthorne

  • MKA: Rebecca Richardson
  • Region: Stonemarche (Merrimack County)
  • Era: 1480s England (Ricardian England)
  • Joined SCA: March 2005
  • Persona: Morgann is the only daughter of a landed Merchant northwest of London. Morgann’s father was a yeoman who saved some money and bought a bit of land outside of London. Two elder brothers died in His Majesty’s Army fighting the usurper Henry at the Battle of Bosworth. Morgann is still loyal to her dead king Richard III and will defend his honor to the last. Morgann is the last of her line of the Blackthornes.

Her husband, God rest him, was a landed farmer. She met and fell in love with him at a spring festival. They were married after a short courtship and she was widowed shortly thereafter having had no children, when her husband was murdered by a jealous ex-suitor of hers. Morgann intends to exact her revenge if the opportunity ever arises.

Morgann is fiercely independent and strong willed. She is literate. For many, especially her mother, Morgann had obviously spent too much time with her brothers and not nearly enough learning how to be a lady. Tomboyish, she can use a dagger and would like to use a bow and a short sword. Morgann has always been fond of cooking, music, children and making art and craft.

He tried his hand at tournaments, but found he was only good enough at fighting to get himself into trouble. He finally settled in Burgundy where he used his flashy armor to catch the attention of a wealthy widow who decided to fund his tournament hobby - since making a living at it was quite out of the question.
